So kommst du ganz kostenlos zum perfekten Dünger für deinen Garten: Halte Laufenten! Die brauchen zwar einen Teich, dafür ist dein Garten frei von Nacktschnecken. Der Teich braucht regelmäßig sauberes Wasser, denn die Enten verschmutzen den Teich ordentlich. Mit einer Schmutzwasserpumpe leitet Rigotti das “dreckige” Wasser mit einem alten Feuerwehrschlauch ins Gewächshaus und nutzt es als allerbesten Gartendünger.

Ein Selbstversorger hat auch eine Werkstatt – dort macht er möglichst viel selber. Repariert defekte Dinge, baut eigene Möbel oder bastelt Gartenwerkzeuge. Doch die Maschinen haben Verschleißteile – so zum Beispiel das Sägeblatt der Bandsäge. Das muss hin und wieder geschärft oder gewechselt werden.

Dörrobst: Im Dörrautomaten trocknet Rigotti nicht nur Chili, Tomaten, Kräuter und Pilze, sondern auch Birnen – die schmecken herrlich im Früchtebrot oder im Müsli.

Immer mehr Flutkatastrophen und Überschwemmungen. Dazwischen Dürreperioden. Um dem entgegenzuwirken, kann unser Waldboden helfen. Denn er funktioniert wie ein Schwamm: Er nimmt Wasser auf und kann es halten. Aber nur, wenn der Boden “lebendig” ist, also viele Bodenlebewesen und eine gesunde Humusschicht hat. In Fichten-Monokulturen ist das in aller Regel nicht der Fall, in Mischwäldern mit viel Laubholz dagegen schon.

Studenten der Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf untersuchen, wie viel Wasser vom Waldboden aufgenommen werden kann und wie viele Feinwurzeln sich unter den verschiedenen Baumwarten befinden. Auch das Dickenwachstum der Baumarten wird untersucht. Ergebnis: Baumarten wie der Berg-Ahorn als Tiefwurzler kommen mit Trockenperioden deutlich besser zurecht als die flach wurzelnde Fichte.

Chili und Paprika ernten, trocknen und zu Pulver verarbeiten. Darf man Chilis an Hühner verfüttern? Kostenlose Gartenerde – so geht’s! Rigotti zeigt, was man jetzt im Oktober noch aussäen kann.
